Heroes of NYIAS and winners of 2014 World Car Awards declared at New York International Auto Show

The world car awards ceremony was held in New York yesterday at the New York International Auto Show which is world’s one of the biggest motor shows. The winners in different categories were announced through voting. The car awards selection committee was based on a jury from North America and Europe however Asian Members were also there. Results were declared on the bases of individual tests of vehicles done by motoring journalists. They voted for individual vehicles in their respective category for the best and the jury then selected the winners.

The World Car Awards for year 2014 Included;

• World Performance Car of the Year
• World Green Car of the Year
• World Car Design of the Year
• World Luxury Car of the Year
• World Car of the Year

1- World Performance Car of the Year for Porsche 911 GT3

Porsche’s flag carrier in the 911 series, the 911 GT3 took home the ideal 2014 World Performance Car of the Year award. The German’s were in a strong competition with the Americans but finally 911 GT3 beats its closest rivals which are also the runner-up at the end. This is a Chevy Corvette Stingray while the third position goes to Ferrari 458 Speciale from Italy. The GT3 is perhaps the best you can get from the 911 series, the 911 GT3 engine turn out 475Hp and a highest torque of 440Nm, with a top smack greater than 300km per hour.

 

2- BMW i3 has won the title of World Green Car and Car Design of the Year

BMW i3 has won two titles at the New York International Auto Show and it is declared as World’s Green Car of the Year and World’s Car Design of the Year. Bavaria auto maker has pinned it this time at world car of the year awards show. We definitely don’t qualm that, the first all electric i3 from BMW is extremely accomplished vehicle and a fossil fuel free machine! The finalists in the Green Car of the Year were Audi Sportback G-Tron and Volkswagen XL1 but both were out classed by BMW i3.

 

3- Mercedes-Benz S-Class named World Luxury Car of the Year 2014

The world’s preeminent automobile’ as Mercedes-Benz says won the 2014 World Luxury Car of the Year award for Mercedes-Benz S Class. This specific award is the new edition to the awards amid the rest four. Mercedes-Benz has actually hauled up manifold this with the S Class, representing the vision of Mercedes-Benz ‘Best or Nothing’ at its best! This luxury was in competition with Bentley and Range Rover but left behind Bentley Flying Spur and Range Rover Sport to get the award.

 

4- World Car of the Year award Goes to Audi A3

The Audi A3, BMW 4 Series and Mazda 3 were in the final but Audi A3 has beaten both to the World Car of the Year award for 2014. Chairman of Audi, Rupert Stadler is very happy with the performance of his team and said of the award: “The Audi A6 was the first ever car of the year award winner and we are delighted that the Audi A3 has repeated that success by being voted 2014 World Car of the Year. The Audi A3 showcases Audi’s technical competence in all aspects of car making, not least in the areas of frivolous technology, drive-train, mobile infotainment and driver assistance systems.”
