Introducing the new C-Class
The all-new Mercedes C-Class has been launched to take the fight to BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, for the crown of King of compact executive sector. The latest C-Class is priced at around £27,000 making it a little bit more expensive than its predecessor. This slight increase in price comes with lots more equipment to attract buyers, so spec-for-spec, the new version is actually better than before. The engine is new as well claiming up to 20 percent more fuel efficiency. All cars have Artico artifical leather upholstery as standard.
Efficient engine line up
The new C-Class has three engines on offer at launch; two diesels and one petrol. One more diesel engine and a diesel-electric hybrid power train will join the range in September 2014. The new C-Class will also be offered as an estate version, with a high-performance AMG model will also be on sale before the end of 2014. A petrol-electric plug-in hybrid, the option of 4MATIC four-wheel drive and a lustrous C-Class coupe will arrive at a later date.
Less on the weight
Mercedes has used its new rear-wheel drive platform (MRA). The new platform uses around 50 per cent aluminium in its construction which is 10% more than before. It also cuts 70kg from the body which means it weighs around 100kg less than the last car. At launch, there are two diesel and one petrol engine options to choose from. The C220 Bluetec 168bhp 2.1-litre diesel is expected to be the best seller. In entry-level manual SE form, it emits 103g/km and returns over 70mpg.
Big on safety
Standard safety equipment on all C-Class models includes Attention Assist, Collision Prevention Assist Plus, automatic lights, cruise control, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a reversing camera. Much of this tech already exists in other Mercedes models, so it’s all proven and should be reliable.
