Volkswagen adds flagship R-Line trim to Golf hatch, priced from £24,190 with deliveries in March
Volkswagen has given the Golf a sportier touch thanks to the addition of a top-spec ‘R-Line’ trim to the range. It brings styling upgrades and extra equipment over GT spec and starts at £24,190 with the 148bhp 1.4 TSI petrol engine.
For the extra £995 over the equivalent GT spec model, the R-Line Golf builds on the extensive kit tally with sporty add-ons to bridge the gap between the standard hatch and the hot GTI and Golf R. That includes a sportier radiator grille, air intake and new fog light and bumper design, as well as larger side skirts and 17-inch ‘Singapore’ alloys. At the rear, there’s a new bumper with built-in diffuser while a larger rear spoiler also features.
Additions to the cabin maintain more sporting theme, with stainless steel pedals and sill inserts, lead grey door trims, R-Line embossed front sports seats and black roof lining. A leather gear knob and sports steering wheel complete the series of upgrades.
R-Line spec is only available with two engines from the Golf range; the 1.4 TSI petrol engine with cylinder deactivation or the 148bhp 2.0 TDI for an extra £505. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on both, with a seven-speed DSG optional on the petrol and a six-speed DSG gearbox on the diesel. The order books are open now, with deliveries expected in March.
